Developing expertise (11-12)

Stage 6 | Years 11 – 12

The NSW Department of Education and Training provides support for remote schools across five geographical clusters across rural NSW through the Access Program. The Wilvandee Access Program links Wilcannia, Ivanhoe and Menindee Central Schools to provide a shared curriculum for Year 11 and 12 students. This effectively allows individual schools to offer broader and more responsive curriculum and enables rural students to complete their secondary education at their local school without having to live away from home.

Subjects currently offered at Wilcannia Central School through the Wilvandee Access Program include:

  • English Standard and Studies
  • Mathematics Standard
  • Community and Family Studies
  • Exploring Early Childhood (Content Endorsed Course)
  • Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies (Content Endorsed Course)
  • Visual Design (Content Endorsed Course)

Stage 6 students at Wilcannia Central School are also offered a variety of opportunities to extend their learning into the workplace. These opportunities include traineeships in the community, such as:

  • NSW Health Nursing School Based Traineeship
  • Central Darling Shire
  • National Parks

The school is constantly evolving our teaching and learning programs to meet the individual learning goals of our students. We will endeavour to provide the experiences our senior students need to successfully transition into tertiary education and the workforce. With enhanced opportunities for work and education beyond school, the children of Wilcannia Central School will proudly take their place on the world stage.
